RHS Chelsea - ‘Edo Garden’
During the politically stable Edo period in Japanese history (circa 1600’s to late 1800’s), the Japanese Garden became accessible to everyone regardless of background. This is the main theme behind this charming garden – which seamlessly integrates house and garden, interior and exterior with open access for all.
As with all Japanese gardens, Acers are much in evidence bringing a richness of colour through their vibrant foliage – varieties of Japanese Acers used in this garden include Acer Palmatum Fireglow and Acer Palmatum Little Princess.The water feature flows through calming stone and the pathways are embellished with rounded cobles. Natural materials of stone, rock and wood pay tribute to the artisan nature of this Japanese garden and work beautifully with the soft pin cushion mosses planted in groups and the strategically planted irises and other ornamental details.Other featured plants include Juniperus Procumbens Nana, an evergreen compact mat forming conifer and Pieris Flaming Silver.
